Melasma

Melasma is a dermatological condition characterized by darker patches and spots, typically appearing on the face and differing in shade from one's natural skin tone.

Melasma Treatment

Melanin serves as a skin pigment responsible for skin coloration and protection against UV radiation.
Yet, prolonged exposure to sunlight prompts heightened melanin production. This overproduction of melanin, termed hyperpigmentation, can occur in certain instances due to :

Hormonal imbalance: An increase in estrogen results in Melasma. For this reason, skin condition is more common in women.
Pregnancy: Almost 70% of pregnant women are affected by melasma due to increased estrogen and progesterone.
Skin Complexion: People with olive and medium skin tones are more prone to this skin condition than people with very light or very dark skin.
Sun Exposure: Unnecessary exposure to the sun may trigger the symptoms of Melasma"

The primary facial areas prone to melasma include:

  • Cheeks
  • Forehead
  • Upper lip
  • Bridge of the nose
  • Chin

Melasma may also manifest on other sun-exposed body parts, such as:

  • Neck
  • Shoulders
  • Forearms

Melasma, a prevalent skin condition, can impact individuals of any demographic. It typically arises from exposure to the sun's detrimental UVA & UVB rays, with a higher incidence among young women with brownish skin tones. At Rojmed Polyclinic we offer various treatments to address melasma, including:

  • Chemical Peels
  • Sublative Rejuvenation
